We investigated the evolution of employment patterns for Finnish mothers and fathers, both single and partnered, from 1987 to 2018. Single mothers' employment levels in Finland throughout the late 1980s were internationally high, mirroring those of married mothers, while single fathers' employment rate was just shy of that of partnered fathers. A trend of increasing differences between single and partnered parents emerged in the 1990s economic downturn, and this divergence was even more pronounced in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis. A 2018 comparison of employment rates showed single parents' figures to be 11-12 percentage points lower than those for partnered parents. We explore the potential explanatory power of compositional factors, in particular the widening educational divide among single parents, on the single-parent employment disparity. The single-parent employment gap, as observed in register data, is decomposed using Chevan and Sutherland's technique, separating the effects of composition and rates across each category of background variables. Increasingly, single parents face a compounding disadvantage, stemming from the progressive deterioration in educational attainment and marked discrepancies in employment rates when compared to partnered parents, especially those with less education. This difference significantly explains the widening gap in employment opportunities. Prenatal screening tests were administered to 108,118 pregnant women in Hangzhou, China, between January and December 2019, during their first trimester (9-13+6 weeks) and second trimester (15-20+6 weeks), in a retrospective cohort study. This included 72,096 cases with FTS, 36,022 with ISTS, and 67,631 with FSTCS.
Positivitiy rates for trisomy 21 screening, categorized by high and intermediate risk using FSTCS (240% and 557%) were consistently lower than those achieved by ISTS (902% and 1614%) and FTS (271% and 719%). A maternal bonding disorder was diagnosed when the Mother-to-Infant Bonding Scale score reached 5 within one month postpartum. The Ages & Stages Questionnaires, Third Edition, with its five developmental aspects, served to determine developmental delays in children at two and thirty-five years old. Employing multiple logistic regression analyses, the study investigated the correlation between postnatal bonding disorder and developmental delays, while taking into account variables like age, education, income, parity, feelings about pregnancy, postnatal depressive symptoms, child's sex, preterm birth, and birth defects. Bonding disorders exhibited a correlation with developmental delays in children aged two and thirty-five. The odds ratios (95% confidence intervals) were 1.55 (1.32–1.83) and 1.60 (1.34–1.90), respectively. The age of 35 marked the point where bonding disorder was associated with a delay in communication.
